KATIE DEITS
Katie Deits is a multidisciplinary American artist, photographer, writer, curator, and arts leader whose creative practice spans painting, photography, sculpture, and drawing. Based in North Palm Beach, Florida, she studied fine art at the University of South Florida and continued her studies in New York City and Italy, developing a lifelong practice shaped by extensive study with master artists.
Working across media, Deits is particularly drawn to the expressive possibilities of light, color, atmosphere, and the natural world. Much of her current work is created en plein air in pastel, oil, and watercolor, capturing the shifting character of the landscape through direct observation. Her broader body of work has also explored the figure as well as social and environmental themes.
Her artistic career spans several decades, with exhibitions throughout Florida and beyond. In 2007, Deits received the South Florida Cultural Consortium Fellowship for Palm Beach County, with her work subsequently exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Miami. In 2023, she was honored with the MUSE Arts Ambassador Award for her contributions to the arts community.
Beyond her studio practice, Deits has built a distinguished career as an educator, curator, juror, arts writer, and cultural leader. She has taught at Barry University, Palm Beach State College, the Lighthouse ArtCenter, and The Society of the Four Arts, and served as CEO of Florida CraftArt and Executive Director of the Lighthouse ArtCenter Museum & School of Art.
For The Courbis House, Deits’ work enters a new dialogue between fine Art and form—carrying her sensitivity to color, atmosphere, and observation beyond the original artwork and into a broader world of creative expression.
