GRACE COURBIS
Founder, Owner & Creative Director
Grace Courbis is an artist, photographer, writer, inventor, designer, actress, dancer, and the founder, owner, and creative director of The Courbis House.
Born in Chile and immigrating to the United States at fifteen, Courbis has spent much of her life crossing boundaries—between countries, disciplines, professions, and forms of creative expression.
She holds a B.S. in Political Science and a Master’s degree in Interior Architecture, while most of her artistic practice is self-taught, shaped by curiosity, experimentation, and an enduring need to create.
Her path has been anything but conventional. She spent a decade as a flight attendant, traveling extensively and experiencing cultures around the world; studied acting; worked across art, design, and interiors; and even wrote a Spanish-language baseball column for ESPN SportsTicker for several years.
What might appear to be unrelated pursuits became something essential to the way Courbis sees the world.
Each gave her a different lens through which to see it.
Art taught her to see possibility. Travel, culture. Performance, expression. Design, space and form. Writing, story.
Together, they cultivated an instinct that has followed Courbis throughout her creative life: she rarely looks at something only for what it is.
She sees what else it could become.
Serious illness in her early thirties further transformed her relationship with life and deepened her appreciation for beauty—not simply as something decorative, but as something essential to the experience of being alive.
As Courbis puts it:
“You do not have to be rich to experience richness.”
For her, richness exists in Art, music, movement, travel, food, conversation, curiosity, beauty, and the freedom to continue discovering.
That same way of seeing eventually became the foundation of The Courbis House and of the philosophy she calls The Graceful Continuum: the belief that creativity does not have to end where it began.
An artist’s creative language can continue into new forms, expressions, and experiences without losing its origin or the individuality of the artist who created it. The original remains; what expands are its possibilities.
It is a philosophy born not only from how Courbis sees Art, but from how she has lived her own life—moving between disciplines, allowing one experience to inform another, and refusing to accept that creativity must remain within a single definition.
Through The Courbis House, she brings that vision to Premier, Established, and Emerging artists, recognizing the singular language within their work and imagining where else it might lead.
“The artist remains. The Art remains. The possibilities expand.”
And beneath it all is perhaps Courbis’s simplest belief:
“Bringing light to another artist does not diminish our own. It expands what everyone can see.”
WE DO NOT COMPETE FOR THE LIGHT.
WE EXPAND IT.
